As a sophomore, Jeff Becker took the Fort Wayne region by storm. There was the 324 passing yards and six total touchdown performance against Fort Wayne Snider. There was the four touchdown performance against Northrup for a homecoming win. Throwing and running for touchdowns was the norm for the sophomore sensation, who led Carroll to a 7-4 season that ended at the hands of Homestead in the sectional tournament. The success, however, should not have been a surprise to anyone as Becker hails from a football family. “My twin brothers played football and were receivers, so I was always around them playing. At a young age, I would throw to them because they were receivers so that brought me into the quarterback role,” Becker told Sideline Prep Sports Report. Last season, Becker was 158 of 304 for 2,039 yards and 20 touchdowns through the air. He also picked up 526 yards and six touchdowns on the ground for the Chargers. “I’ve put in a lot of work to get where I’m at. I’ve always been a hard worker and that has helped me gain success throughout my career,” Becker said. Becker tells Sideline Prep Sports Report that his parents have been very instrumental in his success both on and off the gridiron. “They’ve always pushed me to be the best I can be. They taught me hard work and to never give up. It’s helped throughout my career,” Becker said. And, while he had a breakout sophomore season, fans and opponents should not expect the 6-foot dual threat quarterback to relax. “I am not satisfied where I’m at, and I am always looking to get better. As a team this year, we look to start off as conference champs and be undefeated, then, later, to be state champs. We have a great program where we expect excellence from our team, and that’s what we will give this year,” Becker said. And, he has pretty lofty goals for himself, as well. “My goals this year, as an individual, is to help my team as much as possible being the leader,” Becker said. Currently, he is drawing attention from the likes of Indiana, Purdue, Miami (OH) and Western Michigan.
