Fresh off a strong junior season, Avon High School quarterback Henry Hesson is ready to take the Orioles to new heights in 2020. The 6-foot-2-inch, 193-pound pro-style quarterback, who has been playing since the days of flag football, threw for 1,965 yards and 22 touchdowns for the 9-1 Orioles, who saw their season end in the sectional round of the postseason against Brownsburg. Hesson also amassed 201 yards on the ground. He told Sideline Prep Sports Report that ever since that first flag football game, he has loved the game. “It’s a blessing that all of the hard work I have put in is starting to pay off. I enjoy going out and competing every Friday night and help my team win that game,” Hesson said. For his career, Hesson has completed 55 percent of his passes for 3,864 yards and 39 touchdowns. In addition, he is considered one of the top quarterbacks in the Hoosier State. “I have put in the work to be where I am right now and that will not stop. I would also say my coaches have been a huge help with getting me where I am right now,” Hesson said. Since 2015, the Orioles have played in the semi-state game twice. Hesson is optimistic Avon can soar to that level again this year and is determined to go out on top. “My goals for our team are to play in Lucas Oil for the state championship. My goals for myself are doing the most I can for my team and help lead them toward the state championship,” Hesson said. While also a member of the Avon baseball team, Hesson has garnered attention from Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, Indiana State, Kent State and Miami of Ohio.
