For Garrett Yoon, playing football truly is a family tradition. The Lawrenceburg High School junior quarterback grew up in a football family with his brother, uncle and father all playing the game and he has been involved since the first grade. “The thing I enjoy most about the quarterback position is the bond you have to have with so many people on the field,” Yoon told Sideline Prep Sports Report. Since the beginning, Yoon has been working at his craft, getting better each year and the hard work paid off last season as a sophomore, as he guided Ryan Knigga’s squad to an 11-2 record, ending with a 22-0 loss to Heritage Hills. In 2019, he was 140-of-218 through the air for 2,312 yards and 28 touchdowns. He also rushed for 1,002 yards and 12 touchdowns. Yoon was nominated for the Cincinnati Area Football Player-of-the Year (USA Today High School Sports), named the Offensive Player-of-the-Year (Tristate Football) and named to the AP Class 3A All-State Team as an Honorable Mention. The year before, he was 143-of-243 for 2,138 yards and 14 touchdowns, and gained 682 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground. While some may be surprised with the stats and success, Yoon is not. “I know the work I put in, and I know what I can do and people are now seeing what I can do and what I’m going to do in the future. It feels good, but it is never enough, and I always have to get better and can’t stay complacent,” Yoon said. When it comes to goals, Yoon has set them high again this coming season. “My goals this season is to throw for 2,000 yards and rush for 1,000 again this year, and for my team goal, it is to win a sectional and make another run state,” Yoon told Sideline Prep Sports Report. Yoon has been drawing interest from the likes of Indiana, Akron, Eastern Michigan, Ball State, Miami (OH), Navy, Army, Southern Illinois, Illinois State and Western Illinois. “I don’t have a favorite and am looking forward to every college that reaches out,” Yoon said.
