With its star quarterback returning for the 2020 season, this could be a magical year for the Gibson Southern High School football team. Head coach Nick Hart told Sideline Prep Sports Report his squad brings back a solid core and has some younger players that he and his staff are excited about. “They lack varsity experience, but I think they have a chance to be really good. They will have to grow up fast. We have a very difficult schedule for a 3A team right out of the gate. We will know a lot about our team after the first few weeks,” Hart said. Leading the offense is junior quarterback and Purdue University commit Brady Allen, who threw for 2,671 yards and 31 touchdowns last year on 168-of-270 passing. Senior wide receiver Logan Murfin is back, and a season ago, he reeled in 28 catches for 502 yards and six trips to the end zone. Up front, seniors Braden Tucker and Alex Breivogel lead the offensive line, along with junior Ryan Holzmeyer. Defensively, the Titans will lean on senior linemen Tannor Moskos and Logan Fauquher. Moskos notched 23 solo tackles, 10 assists and four tackles for a loss last season, while Fauquher recorded 20 solo tackles, 15 assists, six tackles for a loss and a sack. Senior linebacker Carter Green is back after recording 50 solo stops, 27 assists and a tackle for a loss, while junior defensive back Noah Bryant returns. Bryant had 18 solo stops, seven assists, one interception and six pass break ups last year. Hart said he is proud of his program and the push continues to play deep into November. “We haven’t reached the ultimate goal of playing and winning on Thanksgiving weekend, but we will continue to chase that goal. We have great, young men here and they have done a great job of representing the program on and off the field,” said Hart, who led the team to an 8-3 mark last fall. Gibson Southern is set to open the season Aug. 21 at Columbus North before hosting Owensboro (KY) one week later.
