For Reece Lozano, it was always about the challenge.

The Bloomington North High School junior quarterback fell in love with the game of football and the quarterback position for the simple reason – it provided the challenge he was wanting.

“I started playing football when I was 6 years old in the youth league here in Bloomington. I always liked sports as a kid and football was my favorite, so I just grew up playing it. I love playing quarterback because it challenges me. There’s no other position that requires the amount of work that quarterback does,” Lozano told Sideline Prep Sports Report.

The position has also provided Lozano with an opportunity to lead his Cougar teammates, as he did a season ago. Last fall, Lozano guided Bloomington North to a 7-3 campaign, which ended with a 28-21 loss to Castle in the sectional round of the tournament. Last season, he threw for over 1,900 yards. Through two seasons at the helm, he has passed for over 3,200 yards and has rushed for another 500 in his career.

For his efforts, he was named to the Class 5A All-State Team. Lozano tells Sideline Prep Sports Report his success is the result of his work ethic and the coaches and players he interacts with daily at Bloomington North.

“Because of all this hard work I’ve put in, I was not surprised by my success in my sophomore year. To be mentioned as one of the top, young quarterbacks in Indiana is very humbling, but it only makes me want to work harder and improve for this season,” he said.

This season, Lozano will look to guide Bloomington North deep in the playoffs, something that has not happened since 2013, which is the last time the Cougars won a sectional crown. In 2010, Bloomington North played for a semi state title.

Lozano has set big goals for his junior season.

“Heading into my junior year, I have my eyes set on my school’s single season records for passing yards and passing touchdowns. Breaking those records will definitely be a goal of mine, but, more importantly, winning sectional, regional, and state championships with my team,” he said.

Currently, Lozano is flying under the recruiting radar, something that will motivate the junior signal caller.

He told Sideline Prep Sports Report that he is looking for a school with good academics and coaches that are easy to connect with.
