At first glance, Huston Swan does not look like a rising junior on the football field. The 6-foot-1-inch, 200-pound quarterback can make all the throws, including into space and into tight windows and has a command of the Eastern Hancock High School team in a way that many would not. It’s actually been that way since he was a freshman lined up under center, leading the Royals to the end zone and to wins. “I got into kindergarten in kindergarten and have just loved it ever sense. It feels great to be one of the best in the state, but I still have to make sure to still keep my head down and work on my craft,” Swan told Sideline Prep Sports Report. As a freshman, Swan played in all ten games for Eastern Hancock, throwing for 1,161 yards and 11 touchdowns. If there was one negative on the season, it was his 20 interceptions. If anyone was expecting a sophomore slump, they were greatly disappointed, as Swan cleaned Swan cleaned all that up and made significant improvements into his sophomore season. He threw for 2,511 yards, 33 touchdowns and only 12 interceptions. For the year, he completed 201 passes out of 311 attempts to average 228.3 yards per game and 18.3 yards per completion. He also rushed for 85 yards and one trip to the end zone. And, he also set records his sophomore season. Against Northwestern in the season opener, Swan set the school’s single-game record with touchdowns after throwing for 301 yards and no interceptions. Against Knightstown, Swan set single-game school records for completions (27), attempts (45) and yards (352). Despite the success, he admits he is still surprised. “I am a little surprised by the success myself and my team are having, but I think it’s all owed to the work everyone has put in to make themselves and the team better,” Swan told Sideline Prep Sports Report. A season ago, Swan guided the Royals to an 8-3 record and he enters his junior season in 2020 focused on leading Eastern Hancock to its first sectional title since 2014. “Heading into the season, our goal, as a team, is to win a state championship, and, personally, my goal is to do everything I can to help my team make that happen,” Swan said. Currently, Swan has talked with a few coaches and has no offers, but expect that to change. “As far as what I’m looking for in a school, I just want somewhere where I’ll be able to play and that offers the majors I would be interested in,” Swan said.
